Cotton Prices

As unbelievable as it might seem given weakness in the American retail industry, cotton prices are at a 15 year high. Floods in Pakistan and heavy rain in areas of China have combined to drive prices up. According to the following article, some feel the prices will remain high for awhile.

Baskin, Brian, 2010. Cotton rally is strong stuff. Barron's, Oct. 2.

Strong prices should help US cotton producers in the South.

I think one of the strengths of America going forward will be food and fibre production. With abundant water resources, stable climates, and fertile ground, America enjoys many advantages in agriculture.
