Research Writing Projects

Last week, I completed the re-write of our paper titled "Machine-to-Machine Communication for Agricultural Systems: an XML-Based Auxiliary Language to Enhance Semantic Interoperability." It is a long paper and we hope it makes a significant impact in thinking about computing applications in agriculture and an emerging area called computational sustainability. Upon final acceptance, the paper will appear in Computers and Electronics in Agriculture, published by Reed Elsevier. The folks at this journal do a wonderful job.

I am currently completing two articles on Regional Food Systems, a topic of great importance to the U.S. The first is for consideration as part of the 2011 Supply Chain Management Educators' Conference to be held in Philadelphia. The second is for Cutter IT Journal and focuses on the value chain in agriculture. Eventually, I would like to place a paper on this topic in a major supply chain management journal.

Upcoming, I am proposing three new papers based on work at the MIT Field Intelligence Lab:

a. The Agricultural Internet of Things

b. Sensor Placement for Agricultural Systems

c. Antenna-Based Sensing for Agriculture

Of course all of these efforts are in conjunction with MIT students and faculty, and long-term colleagues. I am lucky to have so many friends!

The above work also includes research from Auto-ID Labs and GS1. I think GS1 does an impressive job in the area of standards development.
