Keio University and MIT HRI

When the technology from Auto-ID Center was licensed to GS1 in Oct. 2003, a new effort began at MIT called the Health care Research Initiative (HRI). A high ranking faculty member was the PI. Folks from the former Auto-ID Center were to be the researchers and administrators.

For various reasons, MIT HRI did not move forward and the effort concluded at the end of 2004. The intent of HRI was a wide-ranging program that included pharmaceutical tracking and tracing and home health care among other things. The ideas were perhaps a bit early.

During the 2010 Internet of things conference, I was interested to observe that Keio University is doing research in home health care systems. I think this is a fantastic area that will establish RFID and GS1 standards in this developing industry.
