Competing with the World


I must comment that the 2011 Barron's Roundtable is excellent this year in providing information about the big picture in economics and finance. I have been reading the Roundtable for years.

I will be analyzing the article from time to time this week.

Of great interest to me is this quote from Mario Gabelli:

"But how does the U.S. compete when our jobs are being exported? When our education is not ranked in the top 20 in the world? The avionics industry in the U.S. dates back to the 1950s. As a country, we have to keep spending on R&D [research and development], but where should we focus our R&D spending for the next 20 years? On electric vehicles? Alternative energy? That's what the Chinese are doing."
