Selling Books in India

One of the things that I will be examining closely is the trip President Obama is making to India and other countries.

There are a few tidbits in this article that are interesting:

Weisman, Jonathan, 2010. Obama, in india, makes nice with u.s. business. The Wall Street Journal, Nov. 6.

I notice that among the corporate officials travailing with Pres. Obama is the CEO of McGraw-Hill, the large American published.

"The president acknowledged the $17 billion in annual exports to India puts it only 12th the on the list of importers of U.S. products. That puts India, a nation of 1.2 billion, behind the Netherlands, whose entire population is smaller than the city of Mumbai.

'Why?' Terry McGraw, chairman and chief executive of McGraw-Hill, asked of that ranking. 'It should be so much bigger.'"

I think there are many opportunities for American publishers in India. In addition, Brazil is another good market to consider.

I have some specific ideas in this area and hope to execute these in 2011, perhaps through Edmund W. Schuster Global LLC. This is something that I will do in addition to my work at MIT as part of Auto-ID Labs, Field Intelligence Lab, and the newly forming Global Agricultural Initiative.
