This is an update to my previous post, The Cloud - Huge Upcoming Change
A definition of cloud computing:
"Public clouds, external clouds, off-premise computing, secure multi-tenancy, shared infrastructure, time-sharing, utility computing. These are all monikers for essentially the same thing: letting somebody else run your company's computer operations from property owned by somebody else."
Veverka, Mark, 2010. That cloud is no pie in the sky. Barron's, Nov. 6.
Since 2007, I have been a big advocate of cloud computing. In support of our views and technology, we wrote the following paper, which was published earlier this year:
Lee, H.G., E.W. Schuster, S.J. Allen, and P. Kar (2010), "The Open System for Master Production Scheduling: Information Technology for Semantic Connections between Data and Mathematical Models," International Journal of Operations Research and Information Systems 1:1.
The paper features an application of the M Language, developed at MIT, which provides semantics for unique data and mathematical model identification.
We have published many other articles on the subject and I am working on several more for future publication, namely in the area of agriculture and mathematical model description.
I could not agree more regarding the following quote from Mr. Veverka's article:
"What is driving the corporate world to the cloud? 'Enterprise information technology is being perceived as old, slow and expensive,' Georgens asserts, while virtualization and cloud-based initiatives help that situation." bold added
Internet Computing is the wave of the future!
